You will work through written reflections and planning exercises that examine your current comedy practice, your aspirations, and the routines that would sustain you across years. The course respects that stand-up serves different roles for different people. What you'll learn: - Develop distinctive voice through consistent writing about what genuinely matters to you - Engage with comedy community including supporting other comics and building friendships - Navigate comedy scenes including their politics, gatekeepers, and unwritten rules - Make honest decisions about commitment including time, finances, and life impact - Build longer-term opportunities including longer sets, paid spots, and headlining considerations - Reflect on the longer-term role of stand-up in personal meaning, creativity, and identity The course begins with voice development, moves through community engagement, scene navigation, commitment decisions, longer-term opportunities, and finishes with long-horizon reflection. A capstone written exercise asks you to draft a personal stand-up plan grounded in your real life and aspirations. This course is designed for comics with at least dozens of open mics and committed beginners ready to think long-term. No specific career goal is required. The course is about craft, voice, and the honest navigation of comedy life rather than tactics that age within months.
