Paramedic Decision Making in Complex and Critical Prehospital Cases

Complex paramedic cases require structured decision-making that integrates clinical reasoning, time-critical thresholds, transport decisions, and team management. This applied course teaches reasoning across those cases. By the end of this course you will be able to apply structured frameworks to time-critical emergency presentations, manage multi-system pathology decision points, navigate resource-limited environments, and lead small prehospital teams during critical cases. What you will learn: - Decision frameworks for STEMI, stroke, and major trauma time-critical thresholds - Frameworks for multi-system pathology including septic shock with comorbidities - Approaches to pediatric, geriatric, and obstetric emergencies at the paramedic level - Decision frameworks for transport mode, destination, and direct admission - Team management during cardiac arrest and other high-stakes cases - Communication frameworks for receiving facilities and consult lines - Structured debrief and case review approaches The course is structured around case-based decision modules. Each module presents a complex case, walks through structured reasoning, and produces a written decision rationale you compare against the worked-through example. This course is written for paramedic students and certified paramedics deepening case reasoning. It does not replace state-approved paramedic training or supervised clinical practice required for certification. By the end you will have structured frameworks for reasoning about complex prehospital cases and leading effectively during critical responses.
