Sustaining Excellent End-of-Life Care: Team Practice, Ethics, and Bereavement Support

Long-term excellence in hospice care depends on sustained team practice, structured ethical reasoning, and intentional bereavement support. This applied course teaches the practices that sustain quality across years of work. By the end of this course you will be able to engage in team practice that supports clinical excellence, reason through common ethical questions in hospice, design bereavement support for families, and protect personal sustainability across years of end-of-life work. What you will learn: - Frameworks for interdisciplinary team practice including team meetings and shared planning - Ethical reasoning frameworks for common hospice dilemmas - Approaches to cultural humility and individualized care across diverse families - The structure of bereavement support services and the role of follow-up - Approaches to grief support for children and other vulnerable family members - Self-care, supervision, and team support to prevent burnout in hospice clinicians - Continuous improvement and quality measurement frameworks in hospice The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: a team practice plan, an ethics reasoning framework, a cultural humility plan, a bereavement support plan, a self-care plan, and a quality improvement sketch. This course is written for hospice clinicians, social workers, chaplains, and team leaders. It does not replace agency-specific training or supervision. By the end you will have structured frameworks for sustaining excellent end-of-life care across team, ethical, family, and personal dimensions.
