Applied Geriatric Mental Health: Dementia Care, Caregiver Support, and End-of-Life Considerations

Some of the most complex and most important geriatric mental health work centers on dementia care, caregiver support, and end-of-life considerations. This applied course teaches structured approaches with case-based modules. By the end of this course you will be able to support dementia care across stages, design caregiver support interventions, integrate mental health considerations into end-of-life care, and coordinate with palliative care and hospice teams. What you will learn: - Frameworks for mental health support across dementia stages - Approaches to behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia within scope - Caregiver assessment and support intervention design - Approaches to grief and anticipatory grief in caregivers and family members - Integration of mental health support with palliative and hospice care - Approaches to existential concerns and life review in older adults - Approaches to bereavement support including complicated grief The course is structured around case-based applied modules. Each module presents a complex scenario, walks through structured reasoning, and produces a written care plan you compare against the worked-through example. This course is written for mental health clinicians and trainees deepening geriatric practice. It does not replace supervised clinical training, licensure requirements, or specialist consultation when indicated. By the end you will have structured frameworks for some of the hardest and most meaningful work in geriatric mental health.
