Foundations of Long-Distance Parenting

Long-distance parenting can be sustained well when grounded in deliberate connection and realistic expectations. By the end of this course you will be able to describe the principles of long-distance parenting, recognize how connection patterns vary across age groups, identify the role of coordination with the other parent or caregiver, and understand the realistic limits and possibilities. What you will learn: - The principles of staying connected across distance including frequency and depth - How connection patterns vary across infant, school-age, and teen years - The role of coordination with the other parent or caregiver - The role of virtual tools, physical mail, and shared activities - The realities of military deployments, work assignments, and travel - The role of in-person time and how to plan for it - The signs that suggest professional support may help The course uses readings, case examples, and reflection prompts. Each module ends with applied exercises. This course is written for parents separated from their children by distance, whether through work, military service, or other circumstances. By the end you will have replaced guilt-driven coping with a clearer understanding of how connection works across distance.
