Applied Newborn Care: Multiples, Premature Babies, and the Transition Beyond the Newborn Period

Applied newborn care addresses special situations including multiples and premature babies, and supports the transition into early infancy. This applied course teaches integrated reasoning through case-based modules. By the end of this course you will be able to navigate care for multiples and premature babies, handle special situations including NICU graduation, and plan the transition beyond the newborn period. What you will learn: - Approaches to caring for twins and other multiples - Approaches to care for premature babies including adjusted age considerations - Approaches to NICU graduation and the transition home - Approaches to handling specific situations including reflux, colic, and feeding challenges - Approaches to coordinating with pediatric care and lactation support - Approaches to the transition out of the newborn period at around three months - Approaches to supporting older siblings during the newborn period The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: a multiples plan, a premature baby plan, a NICU transition plan, a specific situations framework, a healthcare coordination plan, and a transition plan. This course is written for parents in special newborn situations and those approaching the end of the newborn period. The course is informational and does not substitute for pediatric medical care. By the end you will have moved from survival to a structured, considered approach.
