Foundations of Supporting Tween Academic Success

The tween years bring academic shifts that often catch families by surprise. Sound parenting rests on understanding the typical shifts and the principles of supporting school success without unhealthy pressure. This foundational course provides that base. By the end of this course you will be able to describe typical academic shifts in the tween years, recognize the role of executive function development, identify the principles of supportive academic involvement, and understand when concerns warrant evaluation. What you will learn: - Typical academic shifts including the increase in independent work - The role of executive function development including planning, organization, and self-monitoring - The principles of supporting study habits including time, space, and tools - The role of motivation and the balance between intrinsic and extrinsic supports - The principles of communication with teachers and school - The role of activities and balance with academic demands - The signs that suggest evaluation for learning differences or attention concerns The course uses readings, developmental summaries, case examples, and reflection prompts. Each module ends with applied exercises. This course is written for parents of tweens.
