Foundations of Bullying Prevention and Response

Bullying takes many forms and involves several roles beyond bully and target. Sound parenting rests on understanding the dynamics and the principles of prevention and response. This foundational course provides that base. By the end of this course you will be able to describe the forms of bullying, recognize the roles including bystanders, identify the principles of prevention, and understand the principles of response. What you will learn: - The forms of bullying including physical, verbal, social, and cyberbullying - The roles involved including target, bully, bystander, and ally - The principles of prevention including school culture and family conversation - The principles of response when bullying is identified - The role of documentation and reporting - The role of school, community, and legal systems where appropriate - The signs that suggest professional mental health support may help The course uses readings, case examples, and reflection prompts. Each module ends with applied exercises. This course is written for parents of tweens. By the end you will have replaced anxious uncertainty with a structured understanding of the dynamics and the principles that support prevention and response.
