Learning both crafts side by side turned out to be a really good idea for me. I always thought crochet and knitting were basically the same thing, but seeing them explained together made the differences obvious and helped me decide I actually prefer the hook. The section on casting on had about four methods and I finally understand which one to use when. My edges used to curl and pucker constantly, and the bit on tension and gauge is what fixed that.

The bit on picking the right hook and needle size stopped me buying random stuff at the shop, and the glossary of pattern abbreviations meant I could finally read a pattern without panicking, though weaving in the ends at the finish is covered a bit quickly.

Solid foundation in both knitting and crochet, and I like that it treats them as separate skills instead of blending them. The pacing is gentle. I'd have liked a little more on fixing dropped stitches, but for a first introduction it covers what matters.

I bought yarn on a whim last winter and it sat in a drawer because I had no idea where to start. This walked me through everything from choosing a yarn weight that matches my hook to actually binding off without it all unravelling. What I liked most is that it doesn't assume you know any of the vocabulary, so terms like gauge and yarn over are explained the first time they show up. I've now finished a cowl and started a pair of simple mitts, something I genuinely didn't think I'd manage.

Good clear walkthrough of the basic stitches and my slip knots are consistent now. The granny square instructions took me a few reads to follow since it's all written, but once it clicked I made three of them in a weekend.

As a complete beginner who's all thumbs, I found the step-by-step approach to casting on and the basic knit stitch really reassuring. The explanations of how to hold the needles and control the working yarn were exactly what I was missing. Reading each step and going slowly, I managed a wonky but real scarf. My only wish is that a few of the crochet diagrams could have been described in a bit more detail, because at one point I couldn't tell whether I was meant to go into the front or back loop, but the knitting side was flawless.

The order it teaches things in makes so much sense, starting with the slip knot and chain before anything complicated. I never felt lost. My first granny square came out neat enough that I framed it as a joke and now it's actually staying on the wall.
