Learning both crafts side by side turned out to be a really good idea for me. I always thought crochet and knitting were basically the same thing, but seeing them explained together made the differences obvious and helped me decide I actually prefer the hook. As a complete beginner who's all thumbs, I found the step-by-step approach to casting on and the basic knit stitch really reassuring.
